How to Choose an Adult Chat Username

A username is often the first thing someone sees before opening your profile. Pick something you can use comfortably in a conversation. A good handle gives people a small clue about you without handing them a route to your everyday accounts.

Start with something you actually like

Take an ordinary interest and make it specific enough to sound like you. If you enjoy late walks, a name such as EveningWalker gives someone an easy opening. VinylAfterDark might fit someone who spends evenings playing records. These are examples, so check whether your choice is available when you join.

Say the name out loud once. If you would feel awkward seeing it at the top of a message, try another version. You do not need a clever joke. A name that feels natural will usually age better than one chosen to get an immediate reaction.

Keep your other accounts separate

Reusing your usual gaming or social media handle makes you easier to recognise across websites. That might be fine with you. If you want some separation, choose a fresh name and search for it before using it. Look at whether the results already point to you or someone you could be mistaken for.

Leave your surname and exact birthday out of the handle. An employer or small neighbourhood can also reveal more than you intended. A username is one part of privacy; check what a shared handle can reveal before adding it to your profile.

Make it easy to read

A long string of numbers gives people very little to remember. If your first choice is taken, try changing a word. Keep your birth date out of it. RiverReader could become RiversideReader. Avoid a handle that looks almost identical to an existing person’s name.

Keep claims out of it unless you can stand behind them. Words such as “verified” or “official” can imply that a platform has checked something. You also do not need to squeeze your whole introduction into a username. Put the useful context in the first line of your bio.

Check how the whole profile reads

Read the handle next to your opening sentence. If both make the same joke, use that sentence to say something else about yourself. If the handle sounds intense while you want a relaxed conversation, choose wording that fits your actual pace.

Once you are happy with it, join SextingZone and keep a record of the login details you choose. If you later want a different handle, check the account options before assuming that a public name and a login name can both be changed.
